Transparent Background Tutorial (Blender 2.7)

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve made any legit tutorials and although this isn’t an effect that I tend to use a lot, it’s something that I’ve been asked about before, so here it is: how to render with a transparent background in Blender.

Hi, I couldn't find if this had been asked already but how do you make gifs of your models? I know blender doesn't support gif making and I tried looking for youtube tutorials but they weren't much help. The most I end up with is a bunch of png images of my model and I tried using a website that makes gifs from pngs but the resulting gif was far too slow and I couldn't adjust the speed. Also, what settings do you output your gifs in because mine are so blurry?

I typically use gifmaker.me to make my gifs; it’s what Cherylynn Lima recommended back when I first started using Blender, and since then it’s just kind of stuck for me. You can adjust the speed settings in it, as well; I’ve found that 50 tends to be about right, for me.

edit: forgot to link to cherylynn's video. fixed that ask asks tutorial tutorials resources

Hi! I was wondering how do you set the camera side to side while slowing down at at the ends (like the Mr. Rime render)?

Hey there! So to get a result like this,

image

you actually don’t have to alter the camera’s position at all!

i just rotate the model itself, first positioning it how i want the gif to begin and end, and adding animation keyframes at the beginning and ending of the timeline at the bottom of the screen

image

and then rotating the model about 90° in the opposite direction and adding a keyframe at about the midpoint on the timeline

image

this will cause the animation to play on a seamless loop.

to give it that nice easing effect as the object rotates, you can open up the graph editor and at the bottom of the window, select Key > Interpolation Mode > Bezier (this is typically on by default, though, at least in the version of blender that i use).

I was wondering what's your process for creating plants? Specifically where you have to create leaves/flowers/branches out of a stem.

i really enjoy making flowers. basically, when i find one that looks fun to model, i’ll get a few photo references of real flowers, like this one from Home Depot’s website

image

so i can get a basic idea of their colors and shapes.

after that, i pretty much just make each component separately, one piece at a time. the stem, pistil, and stamen are essentially just long cylinders that widen and narrow at the ends, the leaves and petals start out as circles that i shape and alter over time, and then after coloring and detail work is done i move each separate model into place so that they start to resemble a complete flower

image

it’s kind of like putting a puzzle together, except you also make each of the pieces.

hope this helps! asks tutorial technically its a tutorial. kind of blender 3d modeling tutorials

Sorry if you answered this already but do you have any videos of blender tutorials that helped you learn? I've had blender for awhile now but I want to learn more before making something

kcamberart answered:

oh absolutely, i basically learned how to do everything through trial and error experimentation aaaaand youtube tutorials. here’s a list of some of my favorites:

  • Cherylynn Lima - Cute and clean low poly style, does lots of tutorials for humanoid character modeling. Super accessible for beginners (but check out her more complex work too, her demo reel is fantastic!). Her Low Poly Humanoid Model series in particular is an absolute treasure for those just learning the program and what it can do (i know it was for me!)
  • YanSculpts - More complex modeling, sculpting, and texture work step by step. Super informative, has lots of videos showcasing nodes and modifiers and what they do as well. Most videos are isolated tutorials, meaning here’s one specifically for sculpting mouths and lips in blender, here’s one for sculpting noses and eyes in blender, but there are also videos that answer lots of questions and concerns about 3D modeling and using Blender in general. They update regularly as well, and have a pretty active community, so if you’ve got any particular questions or concerns about anything, you might find an answer there.
  • Mas Baco - Lots of speed modeling and time lapses for both low and high poly models and sculptures, really interesting to watch and analyze. Some of their videos, like this one, dip a little into rigging and animation, too.

everybody has to start somewhere, so hopefully these will help you as much as they helped me!

can’t wait to see what you create!

edit: i remembered some more tutorials that i really found helpful when i was starting out, so i’ll add them here.

  • Grant Abbitt - This channel has tons and tons of blender tutorials ranging from beginner to pro level content, but this particular video is probably the one that I love the most. It’s a guide on modeling low poly style animals, but the technique can definitely be applied to other things, too. It’s really short as well, just a little over 10 minutes long.
  • PigArt - Awesome 3D art channel, lots of really cool speed modeling and speed painting videos, with some really really neat stylized tutorials thrown in here and there.
tutorials it's about that time again

Static Texture Tutorial (Blender 2.7)

So it’s been a hot minute since i’ve posted any tutorials on here, and one of my gifs featuring a static texture recently got a nice amount of attention on twitter, so i thought i’d post a tutorial on how to make an effect like this

image

in blender (blender 2.7 to be exact, i haven’t updated yet because i’m an old senior citizen set in their ways). This one’s super simple, it literally takes about 5 seconds, so let’s get started.

Glitter Tutorial (Blender)

So pretty much everything i make in blender just has the same unlit material, but sometimes i like to play around with nodes and shaders when i feel like doing something different. I combined a pixel node tree with a gummy node tree a while back, and ended up getting a result that i thought was pretty cute: glitter!!

SO since i haven’t done a tutorial in a while and since i think this effect is cute as hell, i thought i might post how to do it! Let’s go!

Anonymous asked:

when I render something it turns pixelated? What should I do?

well there are a few different things that could factor into this depending on what you’re working on and how you’ve got Blender set up, but sometimes it might be an issue with your resolution.

image
image

that percentage bar allows you to change your renders resolution without altering the aspect ratio, so having it set to a smaller percentage can make the final result look… fuzzy.

like, here’s the pancakes with the percentage slider set to 100%

image

and here’s the exact same thing, but with the percentage slider set to 10%

image

could this be the issue? let me know if it’s something else, and we can go from there

ask 3d model 3d modeling help tutorial kind of? its good to know at least when i first started using blender i had all kinds of trouble sorting out resolution stuff tutorials

Gradient Textures + Simple Ocean Simulation (Blender)

something that i like to do when im strapped for creativity is to open up Blender and make a little stylized ocean wave sim, like these

image
image

they’re super simple, nice to look at, and if you add in a little something extra, like a boat or some fish or even some particle effects, it can turn into something really special.

it also takes like three minutes to make, so let’s get started.
